Holy Kiss at Communion
Holy Kiss at Communion 19x15, 2003, prisma bronze & raisen noir, carbon ink. Available for Purchase
Few denominations observe in the sacraments of foot-washing or the holy kiss. Washing one's feet was typically done after traveling in ancient Palestine. A guest bathed his own feet, or a host occasionally doused a visitor's feet as an act of humble service. Because this ritual has become removed from the ancient hygiene needs that made it a meaningful symbol, few denominations practice it. Unfortunately, the modern Christian also frequently "throws in the towel" in modeling brotherly love. In the drawing Mennonite Barney becomes a credible example of longsuffering brotherhood to his volatile brother-in-Christ, Fred Flintstone.
